There is no best way for everyone. Quitting smokes will never be easy and whatever makes it bearable for you will be the best way. Just be prepared for some tough times and change your routine completely. Dont take the same way to work, don't get up at the same time in the morning, eat food you normally wouldnt eat etc... This way you get new habits and wont be tempted to smoke during your usual times. Also, I used the Comit lozenge and found that it really helped but I know other people that liked the patch or cold turkey method. Failure is not an option!!!

I never smoked, but my dad quit a 3 pack a day habit years ago. What he did was every time he smoked, he kept all the cigarettes in this jar with a lid. He had to take this jar everywhere with him every time he smoked, then open it up and put the butt in there. Then there were little behaviour modifications like don't smoke in your home. Little by little, the smell started making him gag. It was some program run through a local hospital and they gave step by step instructions.

Good luck. These days there is a drug "Zyban" also that has helped people. It would be worth it!

I used the patch. I've quit about 5 times or so now. It's been a process, but I'm hoping I'm finally free of it this time.

I switched brands often, and just tried to de-condition myself to smoking as much as I could. But what really got me this last time, was noticing how much an impact it was having on my breathing ability.

Try the patch, it's been the most effective help for me. But nothing will really work unless YOU WANT TO QUIT.

Good Luck with it!

I have to say that is going to vary depending on the person quitting. At my work, a lot of people have recently quit smoking and we've all done something different.
One co-worker was successful (6 mos) using a hypnosis class
One used the patch
One just decided to be done
I quit on 1/20/06 and I used a "shot gun" approach--I used the patch, zyban, and relaxation/hypnosis tapes I got from the internet.
The best way is to decide for yourself that you are going to quit and to stick with it. It was a great decision with lots of rewards.

You can try to gradually quit smoking. If this does not help you should make an appointment with your doctor. The doctor can prescribe you a patch that will help you quit smoking.

In order to quit you have to actually want to quit and be determined to do it. If you know you're ready to quit I heard that the gum works really well. Also, if you're like me and you smoke a lot when you drink and don't really want to smoke the next day, New Years Day is the perfect day to quit.

Ok,,Im not trying to quit but when trying to cut down,,when I reach for one,,I set it back down & say,,i'll smoke it in a few minutes.I keep doing that & it seems to work some. Also,,try chewing gum & keep busy doing something else or try drinking more,,like have a constant glass of water or soda or whatever in front of you.Instead of reaching for a smoke,,take a drink.

replace it with something that is harmless or healthy. it is a habit and it gives you a buzz or whatever. So you need to get something that gives you an equivalent (even if it is just mental) I have a friend who recited the 50 states every time she wanted a cigarette. It gave her a buzz knowing that she could do it forward and backward and including the capitols. later she added presidents and vice presidents...

take that cig out of your mouth!!! chew gum, anything. keep your hands buzy i've heard that's why alot of pep's keep smoking cuz they also need to keep their hands buzy.
think about how much shorter your life will be if you continue.
or how much more time you'll have to be with family, grandbaby,
lust being above ground alot longer vs. smoking.
wish you all the best. good luck!!!
