Coming from the Medical Device industry, most medical devices sold comply with ISO / FDA / European / Asia electrical/electronic standards that do not interfere or get interfered by cell phones.

Maybe hospital use it as an excuse to get u to switch off the ring tones.

Two reasons: The signals given off by cell phones can interfere with medical equipment such as the heart monitors. These signals are present even when the phone is not being used. Second, many phones have built-in cameras. Hospitals do not allow like cameras in the hospital because it can violate the privacy of patients who do not want their picture taken secretly or otherwise.

Cell phones should not be allowed in ANY area of a hospital because of the equipment used. Many machines in the hospital are vital to the life of a patient and because cell phones can have interference with anything..it is best to avoid any possible problems.

Everybody else is right, they cause a disturbance in life support equipment...plus, who wants to be lying there in serious critical condition and some jerk's cell phone is jangling away with an obnoxious rap ringtone?

because the radio frequency can interfere with other machines in the area and could be deadly to a patient, same thing on planes when landing and taking off
that pace maker thing is wrong because my friend has one and the doctors told him he can use his cell phone as much as he wanted

The cell phone signal can screw up the hospital moniters and cause them to become defective, people can actually die as a result. Seriously.

Mostly cause it will mess up heart monitors, and really there is no point of having it on when hospitals already install cellphone jammers that interfere with your signal.

i think that it mite interfere with the special gadgets that they have.
same reason why they dont allow cell phones to be on in a airplane
