I have a on again/off again itching/pain/disomfort in my left breast, and only my left breast. Breast cancer also runs in my family, that is why I am having it done!

I had my first mammogram when i was 28. I had a lump in my breast that kept growing. Initially they did a mammogram. This test is usually performed by a female radiologist. you simply stand with your gown on. then you remove your arm and breast from the sleeve. it is then manouvered in between two glass plates. They then compress laterally until your breast is as flat as can be. the test takes about 8 minutes. mine discovered that i did NOT have cancer. I had a cyst that was forming around a hidden THIRD breast. (Like two aren't enough!) After my son was born it was tied off and i nursed him successfully for 7 more months. Better the devil you know than the one you don't . Good for you! being proactive and informed is the best way to stay healthy and happy.

I BEGGED for a mammogram when I was 26 because I have a history of breast cancer in my family - I've lost family members to it. I wanted to have a baseline so that when I got older, my doctors would know what "normal" looked like.
It's not 100% fun, but it's definitely WAY less invasive than surgery. TO me... that was all I needed to think about when I was getting it done. Less than 10 minutes of a little discomfort compared to hours of surgery, weeks of recovery and months of chemo and radiation.
Think about all the things in your life that might not be comfortable, but are necessary (like taxes!!) It can pinch and be a little uncomfortable, but this is something you are doing for you and your health.
When you are finished, I would go do something fun to reward youself!! If the results come back in your favor... all the more reason to celebrate! Encourage your friends and those you love to do the same!!!

Well, I've been told that it's painful but the good news is it's not like labor. At least you know it won't last that long. You may be a little sore for a while afterwards, but my mom said wearing a really supportive bra will help by keeping the weight of your breasts supported. If they get too sore, you could try ibuprofen (since it is anti-inflammatory) and cold compresses or an ice pack. You should be feeling back to normal quickly. Good luck!!

It is a little uncomfortable, because it squeezes a little, but I would not say that it hurts or is painful at all. It's just some pressure on the breast, and the most uncomfortable part is the idea that you are standing there naked from the waist up and they are pulling your breast away from your body so that the machine can squeeze it down. Mentally, it just feels uncomfortable and awkward, and physically it doesn't hurt, just feels like pressure on the breast. The technicians are generally very nice and understanding, and they treat the breasts carefully and gently.

I'm 22 and started getting a mammogram about 2 years ago because I have fibroid cysts and am high risk for cancer. It's not horrible....
Think of that guy from way back when that never knew how to handle the girls properly, it's kind of like that......

Skip the coffee if youre a coffee drinker, it makes for cystic breasts that are hard to read. My first was done at 32 as well and we reverted to ultra sound because the breast tissue was too dense. It is an experience that is just "smashing" dahling!

I got my first one at 25! Breast cancer runs in my family and we have very dense breasts so its hard to tell about the lumps. It didn't hurt too bad. Its like putting your boob in between 2 pieces of glass and then they smash the glass together about as tight as it can go. I remember looking at my breast thinking, " My Lord, it's never going to be the same"... Now as I'm breastfeeding my infant, I think the same thing. ;-)
