“My fellow Americans, our long national nightmare is over. Our Constitution works. Our great republic is a government of laws and not of men. Here the people rule.”
I'm a Democrat, but I respect him a lot. He was the perfect man for the job after Pres. Nixon left, he just had the right personality to bring the country together.

When I originally heard that Gerald R. Ford 'pardened' Richard M. Nixon I was not happy. But come to find out, that was certainly the best thing he could have done. Letting the 'Country' to move on, and he wouldn't be bothered about further questions and could continue in dealing with the Country's problems. Something the Country really needed heading into the 1976 Bicentennial, making everyone proud to be an 'American'.

I am saddened by the news I am a life long Democrat--had some serious problems with a lot of what President Ford believed and did---but I do believe him to have been a genuinely Good man at heart !! And that is somewhat unique for me to be saying about a Republican !! My biggest problem with him was his pardon of Richard Nixon in the Watergate thing-- thought all along that Nixon should have been FORCED into the public disgrace of his actions !! However, I think the world is somewhat a lesser fulfilled place tonight without this dedicated leader !!!

The same thing I learned from Jimmy Carter being President. This country is great enough to survive the inept.

You don't have to be elected to be President.
I just realized that half of the living Presidents are Bushes! Barbara must be proud.
