Oscars that are 2.5 to 3" depending on how they have been raised, size of tank and how many fish and nutrition, are probably about 4 to 6 months in age.

I have never had platies before (hopefully they are not in the same tank as your oscars, or they will be having quite a feast) but I do have guppies. My females usually start hanging out near the bottom of the tank when they give birth, I do have a few females that prefer giving birth in the floating Water Sprite I keep in the tank.
The young like to hide out in the Water Sprite jungle mainly because the others can't catch them so readily there, but also because there are microscopic plants and animals that hang out in there also that they can feed on until they are old enough to eat the grown up foods.

Your Oscars are fairly young. They will get to be about a foot in length when they are adults. I hope your platie and Oscars are not going to be tank mates or you will end up with no platies. If they are sharing the same tank make sure that the pregnant female is isolated before she gives birth, otherwise your Oscars will eat them.

Eventually your oscars will eat your platties and everything else in sight.
