I installed the game, and it plays for about 30 minutes, until my computer suddenly freezes. The screen goes black, even though the monitor light says it's on, and you can still hear the machine running. However, no matter which keys I press, and even when I eject the disk, it still doesn't work. My computer has (I'm pretty sure) sufficient RAM/video card(s)/etc. I've even tried cleaning the disk...any suggestions? P.S. this persists even when I uninstall/reinstall.

You might have a problem with your graphics card drivers. I have done a quick search on the EA Games support website and they have a couple of suggestions. I have provided a link below directly to what sounds like you problem.
