Actually a horseshoe down means all the good luck is able to spill out into your home and if over a doorway keeps evil from entering. So it's not a bad thing. This is just one discussion of the differences in beliefs.

One hangs the horseshoe upside down for good luck. The belief of this is that the luck inside the horseshoe will spill or will be lost if pointed downward. Therefore one must hang it upside down

what is the meaning behind an upside down horseshoe?
I've heard the meaning of an upside down horse shoe differs from one that is right side up. Thanks for the help.

Keep the open end of your horse shoe pointed up to catch good luck and keep it from running out. An upside down horse shoe will let good luck pass you by.

Actually, when a horseshoe is in use, it lies flat on one side and to turn it upside down would make it still lie flat on one side. I know what you are asking, but this is something to make you go hmmmmm!
