I've heard the meaning of an upside down horse shoe differs from one that is right side up. Thanks for the help.

This is very confusing because people have different interpretations of which way is "upside down." I guess I tend to think of the open end of a horseshoe as being the "bottom," perhaps becase this end faces the back of the horse, though really the top and the bottom are the faces and not the ends, because the shoe is supoosed to be flat when it's in use. Nevertheless! Indeed, a horseshoe is supposed to hang over a door with the open end up, so it looks sort of like a cup. This way it holds the luck inside, cup-like.

The upside down horseshoe is a symbol of luck. On the other hand, it means all of your luck has run out if you hang with the other way.

The horseshoe must have the open end up otherwise it will spill out all the good luck. Also, the shoe should have been worn by a horse. If the horse loses it and you find it lucky side pointing at you then it is considered lucky, after that you should hang it above your door.

I've always heard that if the horseshoe is hung open side up that it 'holds your luck in' and that if it hangs open side down, you'll lose our luck.

"Many people wonder: Should a horseshoe be hung facing up or down? There are opposing views. One requires that the horseshoe be hung open-side-up, so the luck doesn't spill out and get lost. The other advises it be hung open-side-down, so that the luck may pour over you. How you hang it is up to you. Whichever way, your horseshoe will bring you the luck you desire."

Some folks say that upside down is bad luck, right side up is good luck. Personally, I think it means that a horse is walking with a bit of a limp...but not as bad as that critter that provided the lucky rabbit's foot.

I've heard the same thing as the first answerer. A horseshoe with the points pointing up is supposed to be good luck.

an upside down horseshoe means bad luck. a right side up horseshoe means it fills with luck and that represents your body. just a belief.

If you hang the horseshoe upside down, they say all the "luck will run out."

You want a hoseshoe to face upright because that way it can "hold all the luck in"....it would "fall out" if it was upside down.

*** it's good luck to hang a horseshoe above a doorway like a U so it keeps the luck inside...hung upsidedown allows the luck to fall out.
