Lots of useful information at the NHTSA website, including a list of registered importers.

If you're buying it overseas, be sure of who you are dealing with and don't send money by Western Union to someone you don't know personally. Lots of scammers out there trying to get your money, might even be worth it to fly over there and make sure it's real if you don't know the person you're dealing with.

The best way is to just go to any Mercedes dealer and arrange to pick up a new Benz in Europe. Drive around Europe for a week or two, drop it off at the port or drop off agent and fly back home. In about a month it will arrice at your local MB dealer and you take US delivery. It's now a used car legally so your taxes should be somewhat lower now as well. The price break they give you for Eurpoean delivery usually makes up for your travel costs so it's like getting a free European vacation.

first off you nee to find a importer. there are some private companies that import cars but are usually really expensive. to even try to do it your self would be impossiable.

Find a place that can do it for you will cost you a bit more, but it will be a whole lot easier. There is going to be huge import fees, cost of car, and modifications that it might take to get the car road DOT legal and pass emission, and the companies fees. all together your going to be at price of car + 30%-40% the price of the car.

But if im not mistaken Alot of Merc cars can be ordered through them usually the higher end models, they can have them custom built and sent here, which only applies for new cars.

To the US you will needs to make sure the car meet all US safty standards, as well as emissions. Older cars this meant new bumpers, headlights, and a lot of emission control parts. It's very seldom worth the money you spend to do it.
