I fed a very small amount (1 tbsp to an 8 oz bottle) to my son at three months to try to get him to sleep through the night. Didn't work, but he did decide he didn't like rice cereal. It was worth the try though. If there are any rice or grain allergies in your family, I would talk to the doc first.

There is no exact age. Doctors have said not before 4 months old. My son was not satisfied and wanted fed every 2 hours.
So I fed him at 8 weeks. I mixed it very thin and fed him with a spoon. Once a day.He adjusted to it nicely. He then would go
5-6 at night without waking. He was more content and did not seem as fussy. But should you try this make sure you do it in small amounts and it will not take long to know if its agreeing with
baby. I wish you luck.

Wait until at least 6 months. New research shows that babies who are fed ONLY breastmilk for the first 6 months of life are less likely to to get pneumonia, ear infections, and other illnesses. Besides- everything they need is in breastmilk. Rice cereal doesn't contain much nutrition- it is proven that the iron in it doesn't even prevent anemia. At six months or older, start giving a little fruit and veggies - mine started on bananas that I mushed up with a fork when she was 7 months.
Everyone says "Ask the doctor!" Why? You're the mother! You do the research! My MOTHER is a pediatrician- she does recommend to wait until 6 months- but pediatricians are by no means Gods! they have very very basic understanding of breastfeeding, gut flora, allergies, and the immune system. You cannot depend on them to know what is best for your baby.

It depends on the baby. Just start mixing some cereal in the milk, a little at a time. The baby needs to be ready for a spoon, mind you.

Most doctors will say 4-6 months, but my oldest started cereal at two months. he was drinking 8 oz at a time and still hungry. It really depends on the baby and your preference as the parent. It is best to start out with a spoon, not put the cereal in a bottle.

My baby (11 months now) grew quickly and my Ped recommended rice early (4 months) for the caloric intake req't. My baby was on finger foods by 8 months and was off baby foods by 10 months. He's 29 lbs and 34 inches at 11 months. He's my second and both kids started the rice early.

Our pediatrician recommended we start our infant on 1-2 tbsp of Oatmeal Cereal at 3 and half months. Aidan thrived on it. We then started him on baby food at 4 months. He's almost 6 months now. When I first started giving it to him I mixed it with breastmilk. Now I mix it with white grape juice. Make sure your infant is ready to eat with a spoon b/c our pediatrician said never to put cereal in a bottle b/c it is just like filling up a bottle with ice cream for an adult. As long as its easy to get to they will suck and suck and suck. Putting cereal in a bottle and feeding a baby baby food from a baby food feeder are some of the leading causes of obesity according to my doctor.

I think the latest recommendation was 6 months, delayed more now to prevent food allergies. Remember that solid food is just practice for the first year of life ;)
