Let me emphasise: Events reported by the media/scientists as demonstrative of global warming do not PROVE the existence of global warming--there is nothing science can do to prove it. Likewise, just because the weather is getting cooler in some regions of the world or for a specific period of time does not constitute a proof against global warming (it's a fallacy of composition), as much as some people above are excessively eager to disprove the theory. However, these events can support/cast doubt to it, and it is up to you to decide whether they carry enough weight, or whether the warming/cooling trend merits that you do something about it.
With all due respect: If you watch news that is not American, you will realize that events indicative of global warming are happening at a much higher frequency than you may perceive otherwise. Just a few such reports that I still remember reading (but somehow rarely made their way to CNN or the like):
- Yesterday: An island offshore of Bangledesh has been submerged; thousands of inhabitants had to migrate permenantly.
- December 2006: The areas covered by ice in the Arctic Ocean have been dwindling much faster than anticipated; polar bears in the area are endangered; scientists envision trouble by 2015.
Edit: Update--Read the same article in today's CNN for yourself http://www.cnn.com/2006/TECH/science/12/27/polar.bears/index.html
- December 2006: Glaciers near Mount Kilimanjaro in Central Africa are receding at an alarming rate. A consequence is that the downstream rivers which have relied on glacier meltwater have dried up, and the inhabitants who have lived along the river for hundreds of years are hard put for water shortage. Armed conflicts with nomadic herders may break out due to water shortage. Edit: Update - I also managed to find this on CNN http://www.cnn.com/2006/TECH/science/12/18/african.glaciers.ap/index.html
- November 2006: Bears in the Alps had trouble hibernating; some flowers bloomed in November; ski resorts in Austria could not open due to lack of snow.
- November 2006: Remember the famous ice hotel in Sweden? The construction was pushed back 3 weeks for the first time in history due to warm temperatures / lack of snow.
But if my humble opinion is to be solicited at all, then I say: global warming is a dire problem today, more dire than problems such as nuclear proliferation or AIDS. If we don't do something radically about it soon, then we may live to see most of the world suffer through its consequences.

Yes the climate is getting warmer .I am old enough to remember
30 years ago it was colder in the winter ,we had much more snow up here in Toronto. Then we had a few cool summers and
scientists all over were predicting we are heading for another ice age.Honest i do remember that.I'm not kidding.
Today however the evidence points to a warming trend. Now that same b u nch of un success full academics wants us to spend billions to change the weather and make the climate colder again.Governments will be well advised not to jump on the band wagon just yet.We had another warming trend 10 000 years ago and that was a real humdinger, it carved out the great lakes . Mother nature did it all by herself ,or may be the ice age people had too many camp fires that caused global warming.
Just imagine that , spend alot of money to change the weather !!

If if global warming doesn't exist at least the issue has made the public more interested in mother nature and such. As far as the weather getting worse in the summer and winters it just depends what region you look in and what worse is. Maybe the earth is kind of trying to keep balanced in it's own unique way. Ocean currents are changing, animals in the water are changing migratory patterns. What we have to ask is how have we affected the earth. The reason why global warming is hard to figure out is because of the complexity of who to blame.

Yes the earth is getting warmer and greenhouse gasses contribute.
We are simply over using fossil fuels and electrical appliances.
The life style that we are all demand cannot be supported and new technologies are only an answer if they come at the same time that we stop using so much of the Earths resources.
The first small step is to get out and walk.Another is for people to
see that the the oceans are being plundered of rare fish for
restaurants around the world The next you are eating a lobster or a crab just think about it.

NO it doesn't exist and the weather is NOT getting warmer in the summers and winters. In fact the last three summers have been cooler than the summer of 2002 was. So there goes that theory. Be careful believing the global warming nonsense that is out there. The earth is just fine.

YES. All you have to do is watch An Inconvenient Truth (regardless of your opinion of Al Gore, this will give you a good idea of our global warming situation, and how real it is). We are going to see effects within 5-10 years that are more drastic than ever before. Our current changing weather, however, is partially due to the El Nino current this year, depending on where you live.....

It is not NEAR the problem that AlGore makes it out to be... believe me, there are bigger priorities for our country to worry about.
Also, watch the news and see how many times the high temp was set some 20-60 years ago ... wouldn't it make sense that we would constantly be breaking the high temp record if global warming was such an issue??
We are simply going through a cycle that we have been through many many times.

It's all a bunch of garbage.
The weather is getting "worse" compared to what? 5 years ago? 10, 20, 50?? That means nothing. It's all cyclical anyway.
