You are not a racist but you are generalizing. It is NOT socially acceptable in the Philippines for kids to turn into prostitution. First of all, prostitution is a worldwide phenomenon-so its not an area to focus on, in some countries they are legal, but not in the Philippines.
And what I think? There are positive and negative sides.
Iam a Filipino and I work abroad and I can say that Filipinos are one of the BEST workers around, very polite, hardworking , and very intelligent. They can very much succeed anywhere.-because their hardwork, discipline and intelligence are appreciated in another country.
When I was still working in the Philippines, I think the main problem is lack of discipline and corrupt government. There it goes again, corrupt government. Because even if you want to be the good guy, work hard and treat everyone with utmost respect, if the higher ups don't do what they have to do or don't reciprocate what the Filipino people do, everything that you do will be useless.- That's what I think.
The Philippines is a beautiful country, very nice and friendly people they just need a disciplined leader.

So sad but true. I'm a Filipino and proud of it. It is also my experience that some/most of my countrymen don't say good about their country. My question is, did those people do anything to help? i guess not. If problems arises in our country, the people went to the streets to complain. There is nothing bad about it, but here its a way of life. I must say Filipinos are very very good in pointing finger. Especially to the president. I'm not saying this because i support the administration of PGMA. I'm saying this because i support democracy. Whoever is in-charge of running my country. May it be a military man, a widow, an actor, a not so tall woman, an "istambay", a traffic enforcer, a lawyer. I've even had a colleague once that curse my country. He even said that "Why am i born in this country, why not in the US". It was really disappointing. I just hope that before they talk bad about their own country, they should think first what have they done for the better.

I think you have asked an important question, sal l. Of course you will have to go through a few knee-jerk reactions and accusations of 'racism' here to get to the answer. If you want to know why the Philippines is in the situation it is today, then you are not alone. I would like to know too. I am not even Asian.
But if there is one thing I have noticed, it is the inability of a lot of nationalities (races) to take a long, hard, objective look at their own people. I have only seen Bo Yang do so in 'The Ugly Chinaman', and that kind of criticism landed him in jail! I am with you, we all need keep our heads out of the sand, and react to our own problems rationally, no matter who we are.

In response to that racist response up there by "big daddy" :
first of all, if you knew the first thing about economics, you'd know that outsourcing benefits everyone. if it weren't for outsourcing, most of us wouldn't be able to afford even half of the goods and services that our consumerist culture takes for granted.
second, it's nobody's fault that your dumb *** doesn't have enough of an education to find another job. ignorant racists like you don't deserve squat.
third, unless you're native american it's not "your" country you racist piece of trash.
