We stayed in the Palms on one of the upper floors. From there you have a view of the entire strip, and you can see ALL the fireworks from all the hotels. You don't have to mix with the crowds or put yourself in danger from traffic (and thieves). Then a drink at the 24 hour party room, and you can rest easy.

Get drunk, do something stupid, get more drunk, do something even stupider. No shortage of that. It's tough to have to work and drive around Las Vegas during New Year's Eve. Comatose, half-clothed people in all the gutters, etc. Fireworks are good. Can't be seen well from the Strip, as they are all above the Strip hotels.

Huge fire works display at midnight from the tops of the strip hotels. Fireworks will go off up and down the entire strip. The party atmosphere moves out into the streets during this time (don't try to drive up the strip during all this!)

Las Vegas is a sleepy little town, especially on New Year's. I think everyone is asleep by 930.
