I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 19 years old and was told that I would never get pregnant without fertility treatment Anyway, I adopted 2 beautiful boys and have been quite happy for many years. I have not had regular cycles for years and years, and most of the time it would not show up without the help of Provera.
But, the strangest thing happened to me.. I had a period starting on the 21st of October.. then again on the 21st of November!
Here's the thing... nothing on the 21st of Dec(hardly a surprise).. but for the last week or so, I have been feeling like I have a mild case of the stomach flu(nauseous, but not vomiting) and my sense of smell has become hypersensitive. I am not particularly tired, my breasts don't hurt, but I do have alot of indidestion and a strange feeling in my lower abdomen(kind of like you did one too many crunches).Oh and constipation. What I want to know is if you had PCOS and got pregnant, did you have strange early symptoms?
Serious answers plz

YET ANOTHER DOCTOR WITHOUT COMPASSION..... Sorry to heaqr that when you were diagnosed your doct said you would need fertility treatments in order to concieve. When I was daignosed my doctor told me "it just means your infertile, unless you ovulate" Duh! The sad thing is it's the doctors giving the diagnoses that are incredibily un educted on the issue, they dont want you to ask question because they are unsure of the answeres themselfs, so its like they say something, and your at a loss for words...Sorry my 2 cents...

Back to your question

Yes you can get pregnant, the issue is with the hormonal imbalace, you ovulate a lot less, and the less you ovulate the more out of wack our hormones get causeing weight gain, hair loss, hair gain (in the not so female areas) mood swings etc... But PCOS is fully managable, by perciption, and natural alternative medicine, or a cobo of both The goal is to reduce weight first(the most difficult thing because PCOS usully gives us insilin resistance making weightloss hard) anyway, then you usually start to menstrate, and your hormones come together a bit and many symtoms (including infertility) subside. Studies show that just loosing 10% of your weight can improve symtoms dramatically!

Now first off, congratualation on your sucessful adoptions, children are truly gifts from God.

And now... the answer.. in clear print (cause I tend to bable- even when I write) LOL

Yes you may be pregnat, I was dianosed at 17, and am 22 with 2 beautiful boys, both carried full term... But I am not this miraclous story (although I know I am blessed) this happens all the time. I actually just read a study that said most woman with PCOS have a difficult time getting prenant but most woman who are trying to concieve eventually get pregant, anmd only a small percentage needed fertility treatments. Usualkly when ytou get your periods backeverything starts to look up as far as the healing statge of PCOS.

There is a message board/website desingned just for woman with PCOS, they have everything you could imagaine on there
examples: Teen PCOS, PCOS and trying to concieve, PCOS Mommy Boards, Alternative treatments, Perciption treatments...
Anyway you name it they have it, please visit, and join its free
morethenovaries sent you, that me!

Now I know you said you werent trying, that actually helps, a lot of woman are so upset they cant have kids, they stress over it, and are patially to blame, because the stress releases stress hormones that compile with the total "imbalance" If your preganat, CONTGRATULATIONS, If not, now you know its possible, just spend your time with the kids you have and enjoy every minute..*GO TO YOUR ROOM JASON! TIME OUT* ... sorry I got distracted (just kidding, I just know that as precious as they are, sometimes, CRAZY is the only way to descibe how you feel)

I can go on forever, but we both have busy lives, my bottom line advice, go take a home pregnacy test, since you are passed you periods arival date, and see what happens, and let me know (if you want to share) mybillingbox@yahoo.com

Whatever the outcome is, you know know a little more then you did before about PCOS ans maybe you joined soulcysters ands made a few new friends, and shared some stories (by the way they also have a chat room, and a PCOS talk show (radio) that you can listen to online!)

Okay for real, God Bless, I really gotta go!

PS I also refused doctors treatment options, everything is still questionable and I am not a guinea pig, there are lots of natuaral ways to deal with PCOS, vitex, chromum, b viatamins, don quai (only if not pregant or nursing) and many others so if you are not pregnat you can still look into alternative routes, just for your overall well being and to continue regular menstaul cyclesa and bablance out hormones)

i hate to be the downer here, but i'm pcos, and stress does not cause fertility problems, fertility problems cause stress. enough said. sounds like you should be able to take a pregnancy test, i would start there. you never know! i do wish you the best of luck. my husband and i did, metformin, 5 cycles of clomid, 7 rounds of injectable meds and 1 pregnancy that ended in miscarriage. i'm not saying it won't happen to pcos women, it obviously does quite frequently, and i'm so happy for the women it does happen to. so settle your own mind, go get a pregnancy test, take it and call and make an appt with your dr in the morning and have an hcg level checked also. congrats on your boys, we have a daughter that was adopted that is getting ready to turn 1 in a few weeks that i can't imagine my life without, but sooo sad she's growing up so fast! and a better note, my cousin has pcos, took metformin watched her diet, and got preggers, and then had another beautiful daughter a year ago also. the best things in life come when we least expect them! wishing you the best!

wow teach me how to say i don't have pcos and i won't. that's about as intelligent as saying well they told me i had cancer and i said no i don't and i don't. pcos is a medical condition, not mental. i'm all about positive thinking but really let's get real.

Hi I have PCOS and I have 4 beautiful children and am trying for a 5Th. I have recently has 3 miscarriages in a row not due to PCOS. I had all the early symptoms. The intense sense of smell, the sore breasts, very nauseous. I am very lucky because I seem to fall pregnant as soon as my husband looks at me! Have a test done then you will have no doubts. Good Luck!

They tried to tell me I had PCOS! I thought "So what?" I just kept that attitude and I was pregnant the first month me and my husband tried. I was not going to let PCOS get me down. I refused all the medication for it. I knew I could take control of it and be fine. It was the best decision I ever made. I know having it can sound like this awful thing, especially if you read everything on the internet .... so don't!!!! Every women is different and you cannot put yourself in they're shoes. Make it so PCOS does not control your life but that you do btw....i totally agree with Audenn...

Don't have fertility troubles personally - but a friend has type II diabetes and PCOS, yet just had a baby girl after only two cycles of Clomid. Much easier than she thought it would be.

Ok this is my outlook on PCOS....no one has to agree with me. I truly believe that things are as bad as we make them. Mind over matter. Most women with PCOS can have healthy babies. My best friend was diagnosed with it and she was devastated. She took Metformin, but it made her too sick so she stopped and guess what? She's pregnant! She got pregnant when she stopped trying to get pregnant and just enjoyed having sex with her partner. She ate healthy and exercised and decided not to mess with the hormones in her body unless years down the road thats what it came to. I also have a co-worker who was diagnosed with PCOS. She took clomid along with metformin. She didn't get pregnant after a year and finally gave up. Two months later she's pregnant. Keep your head up and your stress down!<3
