Well, I have to be honest and say that I like having a little bit of a tint. And I am attracted to men with a little more of a tint (darker skin). Now, I DO think that the whole orange, fake-bake look is just gross. But there is nothing wrong with wanting a little color.
I tan minimally (once or twice a month), and I use a special lotion that blocks out the bad rays (or as many as possible). It's much better to tan your skin and change the pigment than to burn it. Burning destroys skin cells...bad bad bad!
Honestly, there are SO many ways to get illnesses nowadays. My aunt got skin cancer and she never tanned a day in her life, whereas another aunt of mine tanned constantly for over 20 years. Fifteen years after she stopped, she still has not had it. Look at all of the non-smokers who get lung cancer, and the smokers who don't. It really is a crap shoot.
If you DO tan, though, just use precautions. Follow the directions 100%, don't tan too much, and frequently check for any signs of what could be skin cancer. Honestly, I think if tanning was THAT dangerous and it was THAT easy to get skin cancer, there would be far less people doing it. I'm sure it increases your chances, but if you tan in a safe way, that is what matters.

Pale is certainly more healthy and will decrease your chances of skin cancer when you're older.
If you must have tan though, it's fine looking as long as you don't look like fake-n-bake from the tanning beds, where you can tell that that person tans just because they're orange! :)

it is absolutely okay to be pale, but not so pale you look ghostly, but people get tans very often, just u might not want a spray tan unless u want the Lindsay lohan look. if u do go spray tanning make sure to rub it in because sometimes they come in stripes and that could be bad if you know what i mean. if you're okay with your skin color keep it, but if you're naturally pale you might want tan. it might be unsafe to tan in the sun because recent information shows cancer is caused by various sun rays.

My vote is for the person's natural skin tone - fake tans (e.g. tanning salons or tan-in-a-tube) have an orange tinge, and fake pale skin (e.g., Michael Jackson or too much foundation) looks bad as well!

I prefer tan, naturally tan, not tanning by sun tanning. But being too pale will make you look unhealthy.

If im too pale I feel yucky. But if im too tan, espcially during the winter when its obviously fake, then thats no good. I like when its in the middle.

Whatever you were born with is beautiful on you. Just be happy with what you were given, but if you feel like getting a little tan once in a while there's nothing wrong with that.

I prefer pale, but of course not too pale. Both can look nice as long as they're natural.
