We got a computer for two of my younger cousins (14 year old boy and 12 year old girl) and I was adding some music to it and realized I have no idea what kids today listen to.

I threw on a fair amount of classic rock (Zeppelin, Dead, Beatles, Floyd etc) and some upbeatish music (Belle and Sebastien, Ben Folds, Cake, Beach Boys etc.) then some random **** (Phish, Cat Power, Radiohead, Ween etc).

Seeing as most of you are around 12 and 14 I figured you may know.

Definitely throw in The Wall and Dark Side of the Moon if you are doing Floyd. Who knows, they might like it and go gaga like I did. (AND acquire an impeccable taste in music!)

In a ballot poll at my school, although no one will admit it, it seems like the majority likes country. Who knew?

However, to make sure that they don't spend much time deleting songs that you like, ask them what bands they like, or see if you can sneak into their CD stash. You certainly don't want to give a Fifty Cent fan ten full albums of Queen.

As I am a huge Floyd fan, I think that there should be at least a little on the computer. At the minimun, sneak in Happiest Days of Our Lives and Another Brick in the Wall part II (The Wall) and Money (Dark Side of the Moon).

Liza Minnelli

(But Cake, Radiohead, Ben Folds, and Beach Boys are awesome choices! I love those bands!)

,i have always been partial to country, but nearly all 12 & 14 yr olds like what they arnt supposed to. so anything a little trashy and fast should do the trick, but just throw in some merle haggard and waylon jennings, 'cause all kids should be exposed to good music.

It depends on who they are hagging out with and what they are into to. The best think to do if your in with them, is just talk to them. Don't make the mistake of asking them directly what they like though(un-cool). Just try and figure it out based on who they are and where they are at in life. Above all don't try to act like you know everything about them, just focus on how to communicate. Basically I don't know the answer to your question, but this might help you get to know your cousins better.

You've already put all the good stuff on. Can't go wrong with more classic rock.
