They have been a number of interesting figures, who have served as prime minister. From talking to Canadians and those who study the country it seems that Pierre Trudeau is the top choice. One could almost call him the FDR of Canada. He was flamboyant, while Canada has closely followed the United States he demonstrated some independence. He established some nationalism in the country. In addition, he showed strong leadership against some Quebec terrorists, and he got a Constitution for Canada.
It seems in Canada that the Liberals have come out a little ahead of the Conservative Progressives. W. L. McKenzie King served longer than any other Canadian. He was prime minister in the 1920s through 1948. Canada was a weaker country then, but he must have capable to have held the office so long. He handled World War II well, co-operating and playing a role of some significance for the Allies.
John Diefenbaker, was prime minister of Canada from 1958 to 1963. He came into office with great promise. He was an impressive orator, who had been a great trial lawyer. Diefenbaker, was like many politicians a better campaigner, than officeholder. He spoke eloquently for Candian nationalism, but proved to be disorganized and inept. Once he failed to meet with U.S. President Dwight Eisenhower for a long gap, because he lost his letter under his bed! After winning the largest parliamentary majority then in history, his popularity steadily declined.
In 1984 Brian Mulroney defeated John Turner, a Liberal who held office too briefly to really be able to be judged. Turner had the misfortune to follow the charismatic Trudeau as Liberal prime minister. Joe Clark, a Conservative Progressive, had earlier also followed Trudeau. He was in office to briefly to really be judged either. After a good start, Mulroney proved disappointing. Late in office the Candian economy really plummeted. His approval rating fell to the lowest level ever for a Candian primie minister. His biggest failure was his bill to try to sell out to Quebec, and make it excessively privileged. This sell out was surprisingly but wisely defeated. Kim Campbell followed Mulroney. She is an extremely intelligent person of some ability, but Ms. Campbell unfortunately reaped what Mulroney had sown. In 1993 the Progressive Conservative Party was almost wiped out in Canada; Ms. Campbell even lost her seat. The blame would have to be put on Mulroney, not her.
This would be a general view of the best and the worst of the prime ministers north of our border.

I think that Trudeau was good and his wife too, she was a trip, and she went tripping with Mick Jagger for a while, pretty liberal minded. I guess they got their share of remarks for their open relationship like Clinton and Hillary eh? Oh well, politics they want you to dress well and keep your nose clean and yet they want to sniff up your butt for all the wrong reasons? Anyway Harper is a kiss butt, and too wishy washy, and Mulrooney wasnt that good either? But what do we expect all politicians for the most part are insane and greedy, power freaks, and liars, and yet we trust them to run out lives. Hey go figure? And then we blame them in the end? We should all blame ourselves, we need to really bare down on them and really start taking time out to rally and stop the aggressors in every election? I admire Canada for their policies in voting, but all the same neither the US or Canada has it easy. I think that Euro-Asia is doing swell on our sweat blood and tears, dont you? It is a power play to make us knuckle under to their way that they never let go of since WWII. None of those countries remember who it was to rescue them and that the RAF and the US Army Aircorps and the soldiers on foot were the reason they even have a country left, but how soon they forgot North America? All of these allegiances have been made for years with the past relations of Europe, well is there a time to say no and let go? After all we are Oceans away and they were not here to help us? Okay a few, but not because of the fact they were doing for the sake of their fellow man? It was to consume our lands and money. And yet what money do our soldiers make? And what have we made off of this Iraq thing? Not a dime.
So there you have it. Politicians the slime of the earth.

The worst, John Deifenbaker, single handed he destroyed a great Canadian Aircraft industry when he stupidly cancelled The Avro Arrow at the urging of the U.S he wasa prairie halfwit., I do not know that Canada has had any great prime ministers perhaps Louie St Laurant would cetainly rank among the best.

Oh, you gotta love american arrogance! lol
Best has to be Trudeau. Without the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, we'd be screwed. Worst has to be....either Mulrooney or Martin. Mulrooney, obviously, for the GST, and there's just something sketchy about Martin. It always seems like he's lying...
I should point out that Harper's getting to becoming part of the worst category though. He's kisses Bush's as$ too much and starting to americanize the nation. Not a cool thing.

For the greatest I have to say Trudeau. Love him or hate him, he certainly acted to create his dream of what Canada should be, and stood up for us against both the US and England.
Worst is either Mulroney or Harper, completely in the pockets of their American backers, with no interest in the country beyond making us the 51st state

You'd be Lucky if any of us Yanks remember any of your past prime ministers. Sorry, it's sad, but true.
two_eight..., in my case it is about being ignorant of the facts of who's who. So I hope you label of "arrogance" was not pointed at me because that would be...hum hum... likewise ignorant. Get your ill-virtues straight my friend.
And I'd have you know I would gladly like to learn about the PMs but I just happen to know more about American history than Canada's. So sue me if that's a crime.
It's relatively easy to know about America's presidents because we often seem to be in the world's spotlight. Please keep this principle of relativity in mind before judging.

Worst: Jean Chrétien
Why: Dirty liberal who perpetuated defuncts socialistic policies (and not like FDR's "socialism", I mean far far left.) Plus, he openly (if my memory serves me properly) advocated a policy of nonenforcement for minor drug offenses, as well as subjugation of Christian's rights. Social decadence in its purest form.
Best: Stephen Harper
Why: Great conservative who is trying to turn Canada around, and has strengthened ties with US (economic, military, etc.) Good stuff.
