Y2K referred to Year 2000, when everyone thought that the whole infrastructure would come crashing down as the clock hit midnight and it became January 1st. This was due primarily to a misunderstanding of computer programming, that was fueled by the media and various doomsday groups around the world. Reactions by people varied from putting aside a few days worth of food to totally ignoring it, to some poor misguided souls selling off everything they had, buying up year's worth of MREs and a team of mules, and going to live off the grid. Survivalist sorts stockpiled ammunition in anticipation of the looting that would no doubt become rampant once the lights went off, the computers went down, and all chaos broke loose.

Other than the local ATM machine not working, there were no glitches to be had on January 1st, leaving many people stuck wondering what to do with the 3 cases of SPAM they stocked up on.
