Nope. Unless, of course it was like this huge fire and all cell phone towers were knocked down, and firemen couldn't get to them because they're on the 100th floor. And they're hanging by a thread, and oh, wait! There is a fireman with them! Everyone's saved except for the old man who gave his life so the others could survive. Sounds hoakie, sounds like the Posiedon remake.

No. What if they have to use the bathroom? It would have to be a really short movie. LOL! And these days, help is just a phone call, or a button-push, away. Elevators have an emergency button.

You'd have to give a plot saying why nobody heard the emergency alarm! Or the cell phone. There are lots of movies that wouldn't work today because having a cell phone that works would solve the problem too quickly.
