I just watched the DVD of the movie and then watched it AGAIN with the writers commentaries through-out and they said they were in Dominica. If this interests you, I suggest you watch it again with the commentaries-lots of interesting information about the movie, the actors, locations, etc. Great/Fun movie-the special effects, Depp, etc.

I seem to recall reading that everything was filmed out in the Caribbean.
Oh, sorry, specifics. I can't give you the name of that exact beach, but it's probably on Dominica, or maybe one of the islands in the Bahamas.
