Hm. Well, if you go out a lot with your friends, explain to her that it will be a good way for her to keep in-touch with you so she doesn't have to worry about where you are all the time--she can just call you and tell you she wants you home or to find out where you are or for you to call for her to pick you up. Research some family plans because there are a lot out there (especially by Verizon) that are cheap with free nights and weekends.

You could also try to do a poll of how many of your friends have cell phones, but that might just make her mad...so be careful.

If you do your research, she'll be impressed.

What happened to the one you had when you were 12? I would show your Mom that you can be responsible, only using it when you need yo be picked up from practice. Ask her to give you two weeks to prove that you are responsible. But if you did something to make her not trust you, I would talk to her to get the problem worked out. She may have a very good reason not to let you have a phone. But do not threaten her that you will go behind her back, make her trust you. Good luck.

Do you do alot of school activities - where she has to pick you up ad various times? If so there is your key. Tell her having a phone will help you and her keep contact with each other.
To those who dont think a 14 year old needs one - i look at it as more of a safety issue. Try to find a payphone these days, you will be sh@t out of luck. Picture this - your 14 year old kid is out on her bike, her bike breaks down on her. Here she is looking all around for a payphone to call you to help her. Meanwhile some pervs are driving up and down the street eyeballing her like candy. No thanks, i would rather get her a cell phone so she can keep good contact with me. cell phones are not as expensive as they used to be, and if she runs up the bill punish her in some form.

There is probably a reason she doesn't want you to have one. Maybe it broke or got lost when you were 12. I suggest proving to her that you are responsible enough to take care of a cell phone. If there are any electronics that you have taken very good care of........you can mention that to her. Talk to her about how an emergency could occur such as a car accident and how you would need to get in touch with her. Remember, act mature, pouting and begging will most likely not work. Best of luck.

How can you pay for it? You're not old enough to have a job, so you must just be using the money they gave you - so that's their money, not yours. You don't need a cell phone at 14. I didn't have one of my own until I was 23. You can use the pay phone like everyone else did.

If you can outline a logical and practical reason why you need it she may respond positively - especially if she sees it can benefit her (like you want it for an emergency phone to call her). But with the prices of telephones and cellphones you had better outline your plan with an outlay of funds you will contribute. You could get a job and pay half up front or something like that to impress her. The point is to butter her up without appearing sinister. Good luck!

So, if you had one when you were 12, what happened? Was it taken away because the bills were too high or you went over the minutes?

Let her know you'll use it responsibly and not to just chit-chat nonstop. Tell her you'll keep in touch w/her when you're away from home, so in that way it's a safety thing. She'll know where you are. Don't turn it off and make it hard for her to reach you.

Make sure you realize it's a privilege and don't abuse it if she agrees.

Well, give your mother a scenario, like, "What would happen if I were in a situation where I was in an accident? How would I contact you?" or "What would happen if I were lost, or something happened to me, that I needed to call you right away, and couldn't find a phone?"
Maybe this would be some questions you can ask your mom, and see if she'll think about it.

LOL you don't need one however it can definitely come in handy in times of emergency! Well I think you should let her know that it is a good way for her to keep track of you at all times! That's the only thing I can suggest. Good luck convincing mommy!

try a pay per use phone from tmobile. they have the best rates, and it's straightfoward. you can buy your own cards when you need the minutes, and while you have to buy the phone, you can get one from anywhere $29.99-$449.99. the really expensive ones are the brand new sidekicks.
