Wanting to know why is a basic expression of your humanity. We are "hard-wired" for inquiry. We're not the strongest or fastest beings on the planet and don't have shells or spines to keep us safe, so figuring out how the world works is our main survival tool. In a way, "why" is the queen mother of all questions - the one most likely to lead you to an answer that might enable you to predict and perhaps even influence some future occurrence.
