In my previous question regarding discus one of the answers mentioned not keeping sucker mouth catfish and Discus together. Just wondered what the reason behind this was

Discus excrete a rich slime / mucus coating that protects them from various elements (parasites, water fluctuations, etc) and feeds their fry - sucker fish love the slime and will readily suck it off the discus - which is easy, because discus are flat fish - exposing the discus to all sorts of infections, parasites, diseases and stress / exhaustion

Discus have a very rich body slime, sucker-mouth fish love it and cling to them, sucking the life out of them slowly.
