it's a xmas present. I charged it on my desktop PC's usb port got to about 50% after 3 hours. I left it off the usb until the next day, the battery seemed to have dropped down to 25% (redish color). Then i connected it onto my pc again, put music on it (like 70 songs) then turned it off to let it charge. The battery with the lightning bolt appeared and i let it sit untouched for almost 4 additional hours. Afterwards it was still only at half charge, when its supposed to be at 80% after 1.5 hours... I just bought an adapter for it, and am letting it charge, been on charge for about 40 minutes. But i'm scared that after the next 4 hours it will still be at 50% battery. Is it deffective if so? has this happened to anyone else at all?

Because it's new, it may take longer to charge. Don't get nervous until the adapter doesn't work. Let it charge completely, not interrupted, overnight. Check sometime tomorrow to see if the battery hasn't charged fully. Sometimes, it'll still play for hours even at low battery. If anything, take it to your local Apple store and they can replace the battery under warranty.

good luck! :)

Once you turn it on and let it play the battery gauge should creep up to full. It's a quirk of Ipods.
