Should I count the first day of the cycle as the day I finish a pack of pills, the day I start a new one or the day my period starts?
I know the pill is supposed to keep you from ovulating, but in case I do, I want to know when it will happen.

Does anyone know if there's a way to know that the pills are working?

You should count from the first day of when your period starts each cycle. That way you know when not to let your significant other ejaculate inside you when you would have been most fertile, regardless of when you're on the pill or not.

I understand that the pill isn't 100% effective but I know it's pretty darn close, so you shouldn't even have to worry about using the rhythm method if you're on birth control pills!

I would highly suggest reading a book called "Taking Charge of Your Fertility." It is an amazing tool for helping you learn about your body and how to understand when you will ovulate.

Talk to your DR. This does not sound like a good idea to me.
