Well this fall I saw this mouse in my garage so I picked a tire that was nearby and hit it with the tire. I was able to smack another one with a 4x4. After I scared it from a small pile of sunflower seeds that had spilled it came right back and I was able to smack it.
When you say Traps have not worked, do you mean you tried peanut butter and none of the mice would touch it? Or did you try something else?
Peanut butter works great up here in Minnesota. If there are lots of mice you usually get one and have to replace the peanut butter because the second mouse gets it, but when there are only a few mice you can generally use the same peanut butter for years! One mouse after another will go for it.
Perhaps you may want to elaborate on what sort of trapping you've been trying, techniques etc. If the mice have been springing the trap but you're not catching them it is likely because they are coming up on it from behind and the trap just swings over the top of them. This is especially true if you have the new traps that have a reset bar with the trapping bar that sticks up in the air. If a mouse comes from the back of the trap on that one you will not catch it. You need to position the trap so the mouse has to come at the bait from the front or side.
If you have a lot of mice you can try this trick.
Take a pop can and bore holes in both sides and string a wire through it. Mount it on the top of a 5 gallon pail with the can in the middle of the pail and the wire strung from one side to the other side of the pail. Coat the can with peanut butter and fill it half full of water. Set the pail up with a ramp for the mice. They will jump for the peanut butter on the can and the can will spin under their weight dropping them in the water.
One guy caught 50 mice that way in a night.

This will sound weird, but it works. One way is to take white bread and ball it up than put on the mouse trap, kind of wrap it around the part that holds the bait, another thing is peanut butter.

Proabably the best way would be exterminater. Yes they may be a little pricey and all but hey the longer the mice are there, the more mice there will be.

You need a cat. My relatives had your problem but with rats. The Oder of a cat sent them running. Since the cat is present the problem has been eliminated.
To eliminate the cat clawing the couch, get a piece of hickory wood. The cat will use it rather than your couch.

The old school mouse traps worked for me...it kind of takes a little bit of a stomach to throw the trap away with a dead mouse, but to hell with them, if they are in your turf

If you can find their hole stuff it with steel wool. They'll eat it and die from internal bleeding.
