You need to buy a bigger RAM card. Get at least 512 Meg for the current system and program needs, and if you are going multimedia heavy, get 1 Gig.

256 MB is not very much to begin with. You really should upgrade your memory. (RAM - Random Access Memory). In the mean time un-install any program you don't use, that use memory. Often they run in the background, and many of these can be seen as little icons in the bottom right hand side of your toolbar. But really, RAM is cheap and very easy to upgrade. Talk to a friend who knows about compturs, he can probably do it for you.

If you're running XP, I'd say you're lucky to have 75MB physical memory available. Buy and install more RAM - crucial.com and kingston.com are good places to try.

you have 256mb memory but only 75mb avalable so the rest is beign taken up by your operating system. You can close un-used programs or simply buy more if your motherboard can handle it.

i increased my phyisical memory when the morgue was quiet i snuck in and removed a recent brain from a crash victim and
i stapled it to my head then wraped saran wrap around preop i drilled 5 holes 1/4" on the side of my skull and shaved the hair off
and i feel the diference allready

turn off some applications. increase the size of your swap file. increase your RAM to 512 or more.
