How long have you been having periods? Did they ever used to be regular or always like this? I think it's quite common when you first start your periods. It takes a while for them to settle down into a routine. I had my first period at 12 and then nothing for a few months, and it was like that on and off for the first few years. By the time I was about 16 they had settled into a proper cycle and then I went on the pill. The pill will help regulate your cycles if taken properly but try not to worry. As you say you are being very responsible and haven't had sex. Don't forget that just because you are not regular this does not mean that you will not get pregnant as you may still be ovulating so always use contraception just in case.

I would recommend that you go and see a doctor you could be suffering from a cystis or endrometrosis which are both seriously conditions and is something that should be def checked out. I had polocystic Ovaries (tiny cystis that cover both ovaries making eggs difficult to produce) and Endrometrios (lining of the womb growing outside) and i sufferered from about the age of 15 with very irregular periods sometime it would be 3-6 months or sometimes i would just come on for 4 hours!! It can be fatal if it is left and there is so much treatment that they can give you now. I had a hysterectomy but that was a last option and partly my own choice because i had a lot of pain and didn't want to go through my whole life feeling like **** just because i may want children in 10 years time. Good Luck and make sure that you go and do something about it while you are still young. My deepest sympathy for you Carrie especially if you wanted children x

I have had four periods in my entire life. I am 36 and getting pregnant took some work. I had to take meds to have my periods induced and then I took fertility drugs. First clomid (pills) that did not work so I took injections. My husband and I were very active sexually and had unprotected sex for over 5 years without a baby. But once I started the fertility treatment I was pregnant after 6 cycles, a cycle takes one month. That was baby number one. For number 2, I had to take the pills again and this time the pills worked. I am now 13 weeks pregnant with number 3 and i had to take pills again. The good thing for you is that at least you are having cycles each month. But just because you are having cycles does not mean you are ovulating. You can take a blood test to see if you are actually ovulating. Talk with your doctor and ask for the blood test. I wish you luck.

I would seek the advice of a GYN. I was the same way when I was your age. 3-6 months between periods was common for me. My mother refused to take me to a GYN because she said I was too young. Now I am 29 and dealing with the consequences. I suffered from endometriosis and di not know it. Now I no longer ovulate (which means my husband and I can't have children).

I really hope this is not the caase with you, it might just be a hoprmone issue, but seek a dr.'s advice ASAP!

having an irregular period can be normal during the teen years, but just to be on the safe side you should see your doctor. it may put your mind at ease to ask a professional.

Could be polycystic ovaries, but at 16 you are quite young so your periods just might not have regulated themselves properly yet.
Even if it is polycystic ovaries all is not lost. I have 1 son (with the help of medication) and in my late 20's my periods suddenly became regular.

It depends when you had your first period. If it was very recent, then don't be worried. If it continues for a while you should see a doctor; your hormone levels may be off.
