They are two different species of fish. While they are both in the same family they are not the same fish.

A coy grows VERY large and looks like a giant goldfish, but are basically the same thing. And coy live longer, but you can't flush them down the toilet. : )

Although both koi and goldfish are members of the carp family, they are not identical. Koi have little barbels (whiskers) on their mouths, goldfish do not. Koi generally have longer, sleeker bodies and come in a greater variety of colors and patterns than do goldfish. Koi can generally grow much larger and live longer than goldfish, as well. Hope this helps.

Goldfish are smaller than koi
Goldfish doesn't need much space like koi fish. So we can house goldfish in aquarium also but koi fish should always house in big pond.
Goldfish have beautiful fins and tails but koi have short fins and tails.
and goldfish are cheaper than a koi

Koi is a beautiful fish. My parents have a Koi pond in their back yard and I love sitting there just watching them. Some are huge! One is even 6 pounds.
