try this... mine kept locking in disk mode and i couldn't do anything... i have the nano with the click wheel....
lay the ipod down flat on a table... turn the orange lock button off and on 2 times.... stopping at unlock. press and hold the top of the wheel (12 o'clock) and the middle (center of the wheel). You may have to hold this down for 20 seconds. Repeat if it doesn't work. It's like a re-set but you won't lose your songs, etc....
Good luck....

That's easy to unfreeze it! Just follow these steps :)
1.) Press the Menu button and the Select button( the center button) BOTH @ the same time.
2.) Hold them down for 6-10 seconds or until you c the Apple Logo
3.) Let go of Menu and Select
4.) Then it should be ok!
5.) Now you're finished! :)
Take care!

There are a lot of little glitches commonly seen in ipods so first of all dont stress. Second of all, find an Apple store in your area and take it there, there are usually people who can help you.

I had this happen once. To fix it I plugged the cable back into the computer and back into my ipod. It then went back to normal after a few seconds.

Usually plugging it in via the firewire power supply (not USB) does the trick. (That's what they tell you to do when you update the firmware.) There's also a button combination... play + center button, or something, held for five or ten seconds... that can reset it.

try holding down the play button until in restarts...you might have to hold it down for awhile. if this doesnt work, then go to the apple store, usually they will six it for free.
