The USA has always been capitalist.

In answer to your other question, yes the US has had a minor Communist Party, and still does today. Back in the 20s through the 50s, it was more popular than now. It even had a legacy of helping the Soviets spy on the USA.

Nowadays, Communism is held in the same regard as a spitoon.

Back in the 1930s "New Deal" was as close as this country ever came to socialism. The programs of the "New Deal" put Americans back to work with government works project that pulled this country out of the great depression. This is also when labor unions became powerful as a backlash against corporate power which dominated the country under republicans just before the great depression.

Read the complete PATRIOT Act...
Any democratic capitalist government would not elect such a draconian act into force... we are slowly transforming into a Fascist government...
As per the rest of the world.. this government rates as bad as the Nazis in Germany!!!
