In the stories of Peter Pan, the name of his villain is:
James Hook, Captain
He has always been Captain Hook, and THAT is the reason. When the crocodile ate his hand after the fight with Pan, he replaced his hand with a hook, and tricked the croc into swallowing a small clock so that whenever the croc was nearby, he would know it because of the ticking clock in it's belly.

no, he was not born with a hook. his hand was chewed off by a crocodile. his first name is James, but his old last name is a mystery.
Barre wrote a book about the story after the play came out.
