Sit down and WRITE!

This sounds like a stupid tip but the most important part of writing is actually getting it down on paper. Then you go back and re-write. you can fix all problems with the story later, but right now just do it!

I'm writing a book too! Okay, here are my tips: Describe EVERYTHING that happens. The reason JK Rowling is so popular is that everything is detailed. One of the things I hate about books is when some really important event will only take up several sentences. (for example: Jimmy was sitting at his desk when suddenly an alien jumped in through the window and kidnapped his sister. "perfect!" He said. "That'll be great for the project my teacher gave me!") Obviously this is an important event... but it's so BORING!! You should turn things like that into longer stories like this: PS. this won't be great either because I just thought it up, so don't be expecting anything great: (Jimmy sighed as he sat at his desk. "Man, I wish I would have started on this stupid report yesterday." Mr Bob, Jimmys teacher, had assigned each of his students a report to do on some sort of fictional creature, and Jimmys report was to be on aliens. But he had waited too long to start, and now he only had one night to finish! Jimmys sister, Bella, was sitting on the floor, playing with the doll she had received for her fourth birthday. Suddenly, the ground started to shake, and pencils began falling off of Jimmys desk. The windows rattled in their panes and the lamp hanging from the ceiling fell and crashed into the floor. Jimmy shouted as suddenly a green snakelike thing with arms burst through the window, raining shattered glass all over the floor...) ect. ect. anyway, my point is you can turn a simple thing into something very long and exciting, even though my example isn't very good you should get the point. Don't worry about it being too long either... Once again, take Harry Potter as an example. It's huge, but even a little kids parents read it to them........... Also, try describing the setting a lot... lighting is a great way to start, then follow up with the color of the room or wherever, any sounds or smells in the room and any furniture, animals, or whatever is left. Review everything you write, and every couple sentences, go back and read what you've written out loud, to make sure it sounds right. Good luck, I really hope you get the chance to finish it... mine's gonna take FOREVER. Lol

I tried to write a book a few years ago and had a chance to meet Wally Lamb. He had told me, that I was making a mistake to try to write the story cover to cover. So My advice is to write different parts at different times. As the story line comes to you, then write it as it happens.

Make it interesting so you can grab the readers attention. Try to find something you think is interesting. Some pictures with color so the kids can get attracted to the book.

Don't try to perfect your ideas at first, just go on easy. When you finish the book you go and correct some mistakes.

depends on age group you mean by children.
if you know any children around the age you expect to read it. tell them what you're going to write about and ask them for their opinion. it might make them feel helpful.
