One can only live as one wants to within the dictates of society—our family is another matter.

Unfortunately, I took the second road during my younger years. I was not strong enough to stand up for what I wanted. I let my mother in law boss me around and my husband be weak. I always tried to be perfect, just what everyone wanted. I was into their impression of me.

But it has taken me almost 40 years to toughen up and take control of my life. I did it slowly over many years. I wore the pants in the family as I was the more diciplined one. I strived to be the best I could and raise the best kids, and live the best life and retire rich and young. Now I have found retirement at a young age is not all that is cracked up to be. True you do not have to get up in the morning but that just makes it more boring. When you have a purpose you live a fuller life.
I owned my own businesses for 30 years and it was hard, very difficult but fulfilling. Then one day you give it all up, quit, throw in the towel. Hoping to have freedom and time. We all crave time. the problem is time for what? What purpose?
Sure I read, do my Ebay, shop, and hang out, but what it that? How is that fulfilling?

So, what have I done to get in touch with myself. I am learning about my spirtuality, my soul. It has been a great journey this last two years and I have grown more than I ever could working. It is a ride I do not want to jump off. Reading and taking classes I have learn much about my purpose in life and where I go from here.

My new journey is just beginning.

This is actually a tricky question... sometimes living how we want can be self-destructive, or worse, destructive to other people... for instance, some people want to live a life where having sex with small children is accepted. Should they? Many times, society and family dictates a healthy life-style that is conducive to success & personal happiness. However, if your lifestyle is one that is not destructive and brings you fulfillment and a sense of purpose...then you should be true to yourself... but be careful how flippantly you say that everyone should live as they want... jails are full of people who lived how they wanted.... drug pushers, murderers, rapists, and child abusers... and paid no attention to the dictates of society or family.

I'm living exactly how I always wanted. Sounds like I've just fallen into what society dictates but it is what I've always wanted. Got married, had kids, running a buisness and working at home. Can't imagine having it any other way. Love my life.

I would live life the way I want... to the fullest. Everyday there's people telling us what to do whether it be world leaders, our parents or even school advisors. I don't think they completely understand that they can't always control people and in most societies they make it possible by threating people. To me the world would be a better place if the people on their "thrones" got off them and quit telling others what to do. That's what sets off anger in most people and we don't need that, because eventually anger will destroy the race of humanity.

i would rather live how i want to live. society's rules are important (they keep you from getting arrested) depending on the condition of the society, but if i live how i want to live, it will be as if i'm capable of making my own decisions rather than having someone hold my hand throughout the whole process.

No point in existing for someone elses thoughts and beliefs or you might as well hand your life over to the first person that walks by. That is what organized religion thrives on. Insecurity and the promise of generation adoration.

I am true to myself always!

I have seen too many people waste their time and energy trying to please others and damaging their well-being in the process...
eventually they either succumb to it and withdraw into the cage of a life they didn't choose (and yet they DID choose it)...
or they rebel and go too far to the opposite extreme and lose more of their time and energy...

Live how you want. Nobody but you can live your life. If it's not what you want and you are not happy, what is the point?!
