that would be the most severe example of unrequited love - don't you think - you dip into the realm of self destructive behavior if you go there.

Yes - one of the reasons why is because of the amount of energy we invest in anything we really love. All that invested energy can make us very sensitive to any problems that might develop with the target of love, even more sensitive than usual, so an "enemy" can develop. This can apply to anything we love, not just a person, like hobbies, career, goals, etc. If you love Internet surfing, all that surfing can take up time, and the lack of time can become an enemy. But I guess it's better to love than to never have loved at all, even with the enemy side of it, lol!

yes b/c you put the ones you love on a pedestal and expect so much from them and would do anything for them. This leaves a lot of room t9o get let down and a lot of room to overwork yourself for them only to be disappointed. Love will make you do crazy things you soon regret and your love ones are so precious that everything involving them in a bad way affects you even deeper causing you to want to reject them and push away the pain, which depresses you even more b/c you lost them. Love is a tricky game it is!

The saying is "keep your friends close and your enemies even closer" so yes, you could know more about your enemy than your close friends.

Not in my book. They are my enemy for a reason. It might work for some though.
