You need a wireless adapter but most Laptop's come with wireless adapters built in. For a desktop you can get a USB wireless adapter for around 50 dollars. The wireless adapter lets the PC talk to the router which then routes to the Internet.

In order to connect to a wireless router you need a wireless adapter, either built in (most new laptops) or a card. To connect to the Internet you will then need an internet connection that will be wired to the wireless router.

You need the Wireless router for Internet connection.
AND you need each computer or whatever equipment to have a wireless card/adapter in order to get online with the wireless router. They need some way to communicate to the router.

You need a wireless adapter too. The wireless adapter lets your computer communicate with the router, unless you want to go with wired ethernet but then you'd need a wired ethernet adapter and some cable.
