you can shorten the roots but don't cut them all off. keep the root ball and basically trim the rest of the roots off.

Why would you want to cut the roots. When you transplant plants usually theres a little trimming of the roots. I don't think you can cut all the roots.
Some trpoical plants you can cut in short stalks and buy some root growing compound. Then you stick them in dirt and they will start rooting.

do you mean to grow more?if you take a leaf connected to a sprout and put it in some water you can grow a new stalk.this is called rooting.if you are trying to get it out of your yard you will have to remove the whole plant root and all and may still have runners and they will still grow.

A cutting if left in water will sometimes sprout new roots, if it is kept in water it may survive.

u can but if you cut to much it will kill it u can cut off a little which will put it into shock and cause to to grow more
