My van has multiple problems. First there is a noise, that sounds like the power steering pump. On further inspection someone told us that it was the alternator pulley. Recently it started overheating, and the low coolant light came on. We filled it with coolant, and still overheating. Then the water pump went out, replaced it right away. Now we have water in the oil. When driving a short distance it starts wanting to stop, and when it does, it doesn't start. I have to wait for awhile, then it starts back up. I haven't had it checked by a mechanic yet. I was wondering what it could be? I don't know anything about cars. I will be taking it to a mechanic shop soon. Just wanted to know ahead of time what the could be wrong with my van.

Is it hard to start? Not getting much power? Is the smoke from the exhaust white or blue?
When it over heats does it heat up very suddenly or continuously?
As the guy above said you could have a bad head gasket, AND a bad thermostat. Lotsa times the thermostat will go, the car overheats and ruins the gasket. Get your car checked, it could be warped, have them fix the head gasket and, change the oil, replace the thermostat and refill and bleed the radiator fluid. Also, check your belts if they break you can over heat aswell.

Shut up Jared go get a subway.....Such a chucklehead
It does sound like you either need to dump some serious cash in it to get it resolved or sell it to the guy down by the river to live in.
All vehicles just crap out. regardless of American or foreign. take a look around. do you see many 95 honda's that are perfect...NO Fords...NO GM NO. OK then proper maintenance will make it last longer. with these problems it sonds like they have each compounded another. This happens on all cars the systems get stressed/

Sounds like when you let the water pump go bad and the van overheated you cracked the cylinder head...you might have to have the whole engine replaced or at least have the head taken off, the cylinders inspected, the head gasket replaced, all the hoses replaced, the plugs replaced and have them inspect the
plug wires, the fuel injectors..etc...
I'd say you're looking at $1000-$3500 for the job. Depending on what they have to do...and where you go.

Blown head gasket. The 60-degree V6 motors of that era (3400, 3100, 2800) were awful for having a leaking intake manifold gasket, which in turn would cause overheating and a blown head gasket.
That's how I lost my Pontiac Transport....

i own a repair shop, and it either has a blown head gasket on it,,or a cracked head on it,,either way it isn't good at all,the mechanic might tell you it would be better to find a good used engine for it rather than to try and repair this one,,it sounds like to me that it might have gotten hot a few times,,and this wasn't good for it,,once isn't good for it,but this one may be going to cost you a lot of money to get it going,,i wish you luck with it,,hope this help,s.,,happy new years also,

Yes, I would also say it is a blown head gasket. I would also say to avoid Chevy Vans. You can save money in the long run by spending a little more money on an import.

Head gasket is bad and water is leaking into your crankcase. Do not drive it anymore. Get it fixed asap.
