What are the best shoes to wear to the beach in the winter?

I have never been to the beach in the winter before. I've only been in the summer when I went barefooted! We will be vacationing at the beach soon. Do you guys have any suggestions of what I can wear? Thanks!

i have only gone barefoot to the beach
otherwise running shoes if you are walking in a cold country,sandals and socks is better they do not fill up with sand

If you are going somewhere cold...like Cape Cod...I'd wear sneakers or if it snowed boots. Winter's my favorite time to go to the beach. You get the best pictures. And it's much less crowded.
