Yeah so I want to get my ear pierced but as soon as I even mentioned it my mom got all weird which I knew she would. She gave some pretty weird reasons such as you aren't a girl, you aren't a pirate and you aren't a slave. She was also going on about how I will keep wasting my money after that on more arrings which I don't plan to. Maybe it has something to do with her being iranian, by that I don't mean anything racist I just mean over there, there is a much stronger definition of what males can do and what they cannot do. I think I should be allowed to as I am 17, what do you guys think?

I'm 15, not allowed, not a girl, not a pirate, and not a slave, I pierced my ear today, and i'm never planing on telling my mom, i think she would cry if she found out. as a 17 year old, you probably spend alot of time away from home, hanging with friends and such, maybe you have a part time job or something, but anyways, i recommend doing it and hiding it form your mom. It's obviously something you want to do because you're asking random people on the internet, so if you have long hair (i do) awesome, thats an advantage. if you don't, wear a hood alot? it's winter, i'll be doing that, and also, you should maybe start wearing a fake one for a while so when your mom sees it and asks you can show her it's fake so she might not notice once it's actually done

also, after the 6 weeks and stuff, wear a fake earing over your vacant hole when around your mom

I think you should listen to your mother, but then again I'm a momma's boy. An earring is really only used to look cool and impress others, it has absolutely no value to you or your body other than maybe some self-esteem boosting due to you thinking you'll look better or cooler. After all that wears off all thats left is a hole in your ear that never really goes away. I got my ears pierced against my mothers wishes and she laughed at me afterwards and now I have scars on my precious ear lobes, and I've stopped putting the earrings in a long time years ago. If you really want to do it then go for it, noone is going to be able to sway a 17 year old in any other direction, not even a mom. Just do it safely and good luck.

In my opinion, "byderule" is on the right track with his/her advice. You really should respect your mother's wishes. Don't be defiant. What you really need to do is be patient and try to get her used to the idea. Bring up the topic from time to time and let her know your still interested in getting your ear pierced; that it's not just a whim. Point out other pierced guys when you are out together. Show her that this is a popular and accepted style these days. Be persistent and consistent. Little by little she'll come around. And you'll get your earring while being respectful and preserving your relationship.

Though your mom is Iranian and used to the customs of her native country, she has chosen to raise you in the US. She is going to have to accept that you will adopt some of the traditions and styles popular here in the States. Give her some time, she'll give you her permission.

Your 17 & I think as long as you live with your parents you should obey and respect their wishes. I hate to use the "As long as your under their roof" saying, but it is their house. lol As I have heard other parents say, "Your parents don't have to let you live there." But your mom loves you and I am sure she has her reasons. I think it is gross personally. I grew up in the late 1980's & early 1990's where this the cool thing for guys to do so I am not old fashioned. lol

Once you turn 18 you'll be old enough to be seen as an adult by the state & if you move out of your parents you can do what you want to your body.

At 17, you are certainly old enough to get your ears pierced, whether you are a male or a female. If you do go ahead and get them pierced, be sure to go to a doctor to get it done. That way you will minimize the risk of infection. Also, get 14K gold ear rings for the same reason.

Maybe wait till you're 18 and see if you still want to get it pierced. At 18 you are legally an adult so you can get your ear pierced w/o her consent.

In a year you will be 18 and legally able to make your own decision without your mother's permission. I'd say for now wait and make her happy. If you still want a piercing next year, then go for it then.
