Prominent...
Private: UChicago, Duke, Stanford, Yale, Columbia, and a few others (and the rest of the Ivies)
State (Public): UCLA, UC-Berkeley, UWashington, Michigan, UNC-CH, UVirginia, Penn State, UTexas-Austin
If you live in a state where you have a good public law school, you have a much higher chance at acceptance and will come out with a respected JD. And if money is the concern, almost any loan company would be more than happy to make an educational loan to a future lawyer. While debt isn't good, this is one of those times to take the plunge.

You talk about a good but not really expensive law school, then you talk about prominent law school. Your problem is champagne tastes and a beer budget. Go to Toledo School of Law / Toledo, Ohio. I know , you have no car and can't afford a limo. The busses run there.

Look at the state schools in your state. Otherwise, check out state schools in the Midwest and South.
The top state schools are in California, Michigan, and Virginia. UT-Austin is pretty good too. Tuition has skyrocketed at the Cali state schools recently so I'd look at the other state schools. You may have to pay out of state tuition, but it's likely to be still cheaper than the in-state Cali school tuition.
