I have been living in America for a year, I am a legal citizen but I have had some trouble.
When I first moved here I went to a neighborhood full of "white" people. They hated us and they didn't even know us. Just recently...there was a shooting. Our windows were broken and many things were broken. Nobody was hurt, but the next day I found that somebody had sprayed our garage with hateful words telling us to leave.
I didn't leave, and about a month later (last month), there was another shooting and my newborn baby was shot and killed. I want to move, but I have nowhere to go and I can't afford any other place then this. What should I do? I have four kids, a wife, me, and my mother in law.

Hector,
people can be very, very unfair. You now know this and my heart goes out to you.

I would suggest you move as soon as you can, not to 'give in' to these hateful bigots who choose to attack you merely because you are a different clour, but to remove yourself from the environment that has given you such a horrible start to your new life in America.

I suppose that where you move to will be affected by the availability of work and the cost of housing etc. Before you move, visit the area you intend to move to and establish the relationships of the people who live there. Is there a variety of ethnicity? Do the neighbors live in harmony?

I am not an American, Hector, though I lived there for some years it is normally a friendly and helpful country. The bigots who have attacked you really are a minority, Hector, and are not typical of most Americans. There are good and bad in all. You have been unfortunate, with tragic results, to find such a discriminatory area.

Stick with it and eventually you and your family will find a neighborhood you can feel at home in with neighbors, whatever their ethnic background, who will welcome you and live in peace with you and your family.

Please don't judge all Americans by the small number of bigots you've had the misfortune to become involved with. Good luck for the future, Hector, and I wish you family well.

Cheers, BobSpain

My condolences to you...

I am sorry to say this, but the poeple who talk a lot about Freedom, honour, human rights have been massacring these values to a large extent.

I am not an american, but have friends there. And i have heard stories about gang wars, hatred etc...

My suggestion, leave the place, by taking a loan which is affordable from any bank and move.

If you would like to try Islamic financing, it will not be much, plus it would be a fixed amount. So your money will not be wasted in paying back high interest rates.
Peace Be with you.

Contact the Department of Children and Family Services. Tell them your situation, and see what options you might have in getting assistance to move.

You can also contact local charities for help as well.

Very sorry to hear about your baby. What a horrible thing to have happened.

You poor thing.
I'm sorry for that.
I would suggest that you DO move, anywhere as long as it's far from where you are living now.
I know it would be hard, but that's just what you have to do.
