the Jersey Devil is said to be the 13th child of a family that was very poor. The mother, who was already frustrated by having so many mouths to feed, made some comment about the baby being a devil. It is also said that she said things during labor. anyway, the baby was born normal and then turned into the beast right infront of eveyones eyes. They kept him locked up, but now he roams the Pine Barrens. The family name of the Devil is Leeds. I used to live in a town called MaysLanding which is in the barrens and not too far from where this all apparently happened. Another town that is related to this is Smithville.

The Jersey Devil is a legendary creature said to inhabit the Pine Barrens in southern New Jersey. The Devil is often described as a bipedal flying creature with hooves, but there are many variations.

I have seen this mentioned on "Discovery"
channel about legends and folklore. It is a
creature that has been spotted somewhere near
Jersey, I guess its their version of 'bigfoot' or
Chupacabra of Fl.
