Pro wrestling is scripted, and for some of the storylines it's necessary for the referees to be unconscious. I'm sure you can imagine what it would be like if they weren't knocked out so easily. The match would become more about fighting the referee than fighting the opponent. Having the referees come across as consistently weak makes this easy to write into storylines, as well as leaves the main focus on the wrestlers themselves.

Their characters are written that way in the script. Sometimes refs get a little exposure. Teddy Long used to be a ref, and look at his character now. Some refs are actually wrestlers who are trying to make it or never could make it as a pro. Ironically, they are probably some of the most intelligent people in the ring. They help coordinate maneuvers by the wrestlers using signals and sometimes even telling a wrestler when something is going to happen.

That's what I want to know.
But I think that is part of the acting to show the fans that wreslting is "real." But serisouly the wwe business is wasting their money on stupid fragil redferees!
