All animals who appear to you in such ways are messengers. As someone who is actually writing a book on animal totems (feel free to email or IM if you want more info in any way), I believe that the owls are sending you a very clear message, or at least trying. According to ancient traditions, if owls appeared to you in unusual or "coincidental ways," and this is especially interesting in relation to death and grieving, they are telling you to let go of something that is holding you back. I don't know the situation well enough, but I would guess in this case it is your grief, or your inability to let go of the dead. Owls are in no way evil, no more than any natural creature... and they all have their messages and aid if you are willing to listen.

Oh, and I feel obligated to add that night time is not evil, it is part of a natural cycle and humans fear it only because they fear the unknown (in answer to an above "answer")... you are here having trouble with the unknown too: death, night, darkness, and why the owls are there. They are trying to help you understand and move on, not cursing you. That's just silly. Sorry, but it is.

owls = wisdom or demon (becaise they are a creature of the night) and curse. exodus 23:13a, isaiah 34:13. you decide. Understanding the dreams you dream by ira milligan, I know its not a dream, I was using the owl as a symbol as if it was a dream. It may not help. good luck.
