A coworker of mine has an '06 Honda Civic Hybrid. He claims to be getting about 50 mpg on mostly highway driving. In all honesty life experience tells me that unless a person religiously records mileage every fill-up for a long period of time, self-reporting estimates are notoriously inflated. Regardless, his Hybrid mileage is noticeably superior to his Camry.

However to theoretically answer your question using my coworker's cars, the EPA claims annual fuel expenditure of $795 per year for the Civic Hybrid and $1,471 for the Toyota Camry 2.4 Liter automatic. The Hybrid would theoretically save about $700 per year. At this rate it would take somewhere between 4 and 7 years to recover the premium purchase price paid by my coworker. Obviously if you traded in your Hummer for a Civic Hybrid, it would take about two years - less if the price of gas goes up.

I have heard that EPA estimates for hybrid cars are even more inflated than other vehicles. If this is true, it may take longer to reach the payoff point.

the terrific thank you to apply much less gasoline at minimum fee to the customer is to purchase SMALL DIESEL autos. The Lexus electric some-of-the-time automobile call-me-Dave Cameron makes use of averages 27 MPG and is basically functional to stay away from paying the London congestion fee. AND it became darned high priced to purchase and construct. each and every 2 years or so that is going to desire new batteries and think of of the pollutants there. as quickly as on a toll street the petrol unit kicks in - because it does with the Prius - and it makes use of greater gasoline than a classic automobile. that is all a huge con trick! MPs could be attentive to greater effective - some hopes - they love a Jag or 2! RoyS
