What have been some of your side effects and how have you coped? I am only 14 and my doctor recommended me! She said I would gain an MAX. of 5 lbs during the first year. What a lie! I gained 20lbs in the first MONTH! AND I haven't changed my eating habits. I'm exercising but I'm still gaining weight like crazy! Not to mention the terrible amount of stretch marks I'm getting. She never told me I would have such extreme fatigue that I would start sleeping for 16 hours and still feel drowsy! She never told me I would lost my self-esteem. How can I cope with all of these things? I'm only 14 and I don't hang out with my friends anymore... I'm too busy sleeping. What would you suggest doing? I don't even know where to begin and I'm stuck with this in my body for another 2 months. I gain any more weight and I'm going anorexic. This is rediculous. I just feel so helpless and I don't even feel like myself. And I wasn't even warned about these things!

It worries me that your doctor would consider you a good candidate for the shot at 14 years old. Were you on the pill before? Usually, doctors will give the shot after a patient has tried the pill. I'm sorry that you are going through this. I tried the shot once (at 20 years of age) and would never do it again. I had uncontrollable mood swings, extreme weight gain, and fatigue as you do. All I can tell you is to get into a different gyn's office and explain what's going on so you can discuss other birth control options. Perhaps the doctor can even offer advice how to help you through the remaining two months. Continue to exercise and eat healthy! Drink plenty of water. And if you didn't receive a thorough explanation of possible side effects....shame on that doctor--don't go back.

The depo shot did something similar to me, i didn't eat for 2 months but i made up for it on the last month. It's the hormones in the shot. I would suggest you get on another form of birth control. You can still get pregnant on the depo shot and if you do, there's a really high risk that the baby would have very serious birth defects such as mental retardation. Try the pill or better yet, try not having sex right now, if you are. If you decide to get on birth control a couple of years from now, your body will be completely different and may not react the same way. If you are dead set on having sex, talk to your doctor about an IUD. You can get one that has hormones or they have ones with out the hormones. Some last as long as 10 years. You definitely need to talk to your doctor. Good Luck!

I used depo for 10 years. I gained approximately 10 lbs usual during the finished time. It took some months of taking the shot before I gained all of it. I gained in simple terms as lots weight whilst i replaced into on the pill.

I have nothing positive to say about that Depo Provera Shot.
Best wishes to you.

The weight issue is totally about the hormones. Eat wisely, cut the crap-seriously. Keep on track, Put cocca butter on those stretch marks, they may reduce later as well.

The hormone levels will change again once it cycles out of your body in several months. It can take up to a year, so keep a journal of all this- you will need it later in life- trust me!

Its not working for you- tell your doctor. ASAP

The only perk- your boobs will grow as well.
Take some B complex vitamins and C vitamins every morning and that will help with some energy. Go to sleep on a regular basis and get 8-10 hours, that will help you.

Oh the sales pitch for the product is so good, we really wanted to believe it. Each body is different. This will not work for you, so try another one. OrthaNova (low dose) might work for you.

I'm currently on Depo Provera for a month now. The only effects I noticed are pimples, increased appetite and 5 pounds weight gain. I f u ask me if I would never go back on the needle again. I would have to say, "no". Right now I'm looking forward to getting back on the ol' trusty pill... Just a tip, drink lots of milk each day to prevent Osteoporosis.(Another side effect).

I have very few good things to say about depo and I work in the ob/gyn field. I have seen so many women gain 20-30 lbs and have all sorts of other problems. find a different birth control method
