I am a gay man. Not the issue. I am good friends with a straight man. We joke and kid around about me being gay. Today, he brings a gift for me at my job. It's a bed spread. Why would a straight guy give a gay man something for his BED?? What's he saying to me??

Maybe he found it on sale. Does it have flowers all over it? Then it's a joke. Is it satin/silk? Then it's a come on. Is it plain colored or of a woodsy, more masculine design? Then he just thinks you need a new one. Is it an Amish quilt? Then he wants the best for you. Whatever the pattern he means it as a gift. The only tacky part was bringing it TO YOUR JOB, as it was a bit on the more personal side. But good friends, as you say he is, usually do things from the heart. Take it in good faith.

Is it possible he has seen your bed before and decide you need a better bedspread ?? Its not uncommon for friends to buy something for the bedroom especially if they think what you have is tacky or something and its a nice way to say "Get rid of it!!!" (the old one)

You could ask him if it made you feel uncomfortable. Maybe he didn't think it would.

I know a few people who have done that trick... buying a new item as a way to make them get rid of a old thing. :-) But seriously, if he made you feel uncomfortable, pull him aside and tell him... he may have thought he was being nice to get you something new that you needed and unware how it would make you feel. Some people do that and they won't know unless you say so.

I think it's weird, but he might also just suck at picking presents for people. From that alone, I definitely wouldn't read anything into it. If it's that combined with a bunch of other things, you might outright ask him. Or you might steer a conversation into whether he's ever been curious. As for whether or not you want to carry through, or just let him talk to someone about it is up to you.

A bedspread isn't really a sexual gift. Maybe his wife or girlfriend picked it out for him to give to you. Alot of straight guys aren't very good at picking out gifts. I have to help my husband alot when shopping for gifts for his family and friends. What's more important is how does he act toward you? It's usually pretty easy to figure out if someone is attracted to you. Their body language, how they look at you, how they smile at you, the things they say to you, etc.

I think that it's really just a gift and nothing else. You might be reading to much into it. I gave my best friend some sheets and believe me it had nothing to do with me liking her it was just a gift that I thought she would like.

If you have one now and it is in bad shape, nothing big. If you don;t have one, may have just been an innocent gift. Talk to him and ask him why he chose that as a gift.

Well maybe he is one of those down low guys that people speak of. Or just come out and ask him he should know.

Maybe it reminded him of you?

BUT the fact is, its not a "regular" present, is it? He sounds like a nice guy.

Why go through all of this drama? Ask what you want to know.
