It depends on the situation. If it occurs in a setting where I can excuse myself I leave the area where the uncomfortable incident is taking place. If it's in public i normally turn around ; change my direction, cross the street. If it involves a telephone conversation...I say I need to answer the door or use the bathroom. ( generally I make up an excuse to end the conversation.) if a stranger is doing something that I feel is inappropriate I left store security, or the police know that there is suspicious activity taking place & ask for their assistanc eto check it out for the safety of the community in that vicinity .

Depends on what it is, sometimes I comment that it has made me uncomfortable, sometimes I become quiet and wait to see how the situation will play out, sometimes I laugh and sometimes I leave.

I agree with redneck. If you laugh, It will let people know that you are uncomfortable. So I try to stay calm.
