Good question! Not all teachers do this, but sadly some do. I think when you get to the point of acting hatefully toward your class it's time to take a step back & see what they issue is. Maybe it's just close to the holiday & we all need a break OR maybe you've been teaching to long, you've lost your zest for teaching, & it's time to retire / find a new career. I know a few teachers that think yelling, threatening, etc. is effective for some, but it's honestly not. I'm a believer in love & logic! I have some tough kids that have really came around this year. They should make love & logic a required course for teachers. It's a lot of work BUT so worth it!

Hmmm... are you interpreting discipline and structure as hostility and snobbery? A common misconception, both from students and teachers, is that they must be "tight" or be buddies... the teacher is still the authority figure. A good teacher will help her students learn HOW to learn and find a way to make her classes interesting. If you walk out of a classroom not knowing any more than when you walked in the door... then you were either asleep or the teacher did not teach that day. Now... saying all that.. some teachers ARE hostile and snobby. Hostility is usually a form of self-defense. Maybe the kids are just completely unruly...or maybe they have not learned respect... or maybe she/he just has a crappy personal life and is taking it out on the students. Snobby? Yes... some teachers think they know more than anyone else.. and refuse to learn anything from their students.
But.. before you go making a general accusation - remember that the teacher will react to your actions... take responsibility for what YOU are doing that might make that teacher feel hostile... rather than challenging every damn thing the teacher says, offer suggestions on other possible answers....or views... unfold your arms, sit up straight, and stop cursing "stupid b****" under your breath... you might find that the teacher is quite nice and willing to work with you!!!

Well, first off, what did you do that made the teacher mad? Ask yourself that question. As a teacher, I can tell you I am neither snobby nor hostile. However, I do get irritated when a student doesn't do their assigned work. I also get irritated when a student back-talks. The teacher is the "queen bee" of her hive/classroom honey. That's something you should remember. You should respect your teacher and obey the rules and do your work. I'm sure your teacher thinks you are just darling. Maybe you are the one that is hostile and snobby. It certainly sounds that way when you make generalizations.

I don't think all teachers do. However, if you run into one who does perhaps you caught them on a bad day. ( Everyone has had a bad day.) If however you see this behavior on a continual basis you could...confront the teacher and say what you have observed. Or, you might speak to the principal about it. Some teachers are under a lot of stress and struggle to control their stress. Just like the rest of the world. They should be respectful to all students. Bringing this to their attention may help them to realize an area of weakness they them self need to work on . Going to their mentor or the principal will allow one of their peers to speak to them about it and perhaps they will listen better. If all else fails we have a form called a 133 that can be written against a school employee. This does go on their permanent record and is used during reviews. Good luck!

Could it possibly be that you or the other students need to reevaluate how you are treating your teachers or how you are acting in their classes? Most teachers are not like that at all and love teaching. If they didn't, usually they are intelligent enough to realize they certainly could make more money doing other things with a lot less dealings with irate parents and students!
Lighten up on them and try to "catch a few more flies with honey instead of vinegar"! Might even make your own life a little more pleasant, sweetie!

Most of the teachers in my school are really cool but I think the problem is sometimes some of the students are just brats and could make the coolest teacher seem like the worst there are some kids in my school who I would just like to beat up with a baseball bat so they would shut up and stop being smartasses.

Usually, when a teacher is mean or snotty to students it's because they don't really want to be there. So many people get into teaching because of the summer vacations and paid holidays. But, teaching takes real compassion and caring.
And for the record, not all teachers are bad. Most teachers want to help students. Be open to teachers and too your education. Trust me, they are really not out to get you

Probably for many different reasons; I can think of a few:
a) they used to be nice and friendly, but students used to take advantage of them and not respect them
b) they believe a healthy dose of fear will help motivate students to work hard
c) their own teachers used to be hostile and snobby to them, so they think that's how it should be
d) they got passed over for promotion to principal
e) they'd rather be teaching at some other school
f) problems at home
g) inferiority complex
h) theý hate their job but feel trapped and unable to get into a different career

Good question! No but really, not all teachers are bad though. Some actually are real cool, and cherish friendships with their students. The thing is it seems that they are hard to come by. many reason why: 1) Personal issues (some have crabby lives and take it out on people who can't fire them) 2) they really dont want to teach (maybe they dont like kids) and its the only job they can get!
